IT Business Relationship Manager
The Business Relationship Manager enables the success through effective, creative, and innovative leadership in strategic IT initiatives on behalf of the business. The Business Relationship Management function has the mandate to establish a relationship between IT and the business, and to increase the value realized from IT assets, investments, and capabilities. The Business Relationship Manager (BRM) is responsible for understanding the business, assisting in the prioritization of projects, ensuring that projects align with the technology that provides maximum return on investment, and directing IT strategy in support of the overall business strategy.
•The Business Relationship Manager is the primary owner of the IT relationship with a specific business unit
•The BRM is the liaison between IT and the business unit, and a trusted advisor to the business unit. As such, the BRM needs to have significant knowledge in subject matters pertaining to both IT and the business, and must have a thorough understanding of the business to identify its needs and envisage business solutions
•Learn the business unit’s functions and understand the strategic business direction in an effort to identify opportunities for technology innovation
•Guides the creation and delivery of the ongoing Strategic Information and technology plan for assigned business partners
•Primary point of contact for overall IT needs for a complex or heterogeneous business unit(s)
•Identify customer technology needs and growth strategies and use that knowledge of all the business’s IT demand to build out 1 to 5 year technology road maps
•Define strategic framework for each fiscal year and multi- year roadmap and direct IT strategy in support of the overall business strategy
•Provide regular updates on major strategic Information Services projects, business line priorities, business specific issues, and ROI monitoring
•Coach and encourage business stakeholders about the potential use of technologies that brings additional values to the business units
•Proactively shares knowledge of technology risks and opportunities to build competitive advantage and improve efficiency and effectiveness of business units
•Ensure that organizational and business related priorities are clearly and consistently communicated within their area of responsibility
•Manage internal customer expectations with respect to IT services, identifying gaps between customer needs and IT capabilities, and work to find innovative solutions to those gaps
•Leads business and technical teams in defining business needs and implementing innovative solutions that meet business objectives or create new business opportunities through the effective use of technology.
•Represent and communicate business unit management’s IT Technology needs to IT department
•Collaborate with other Business Relationship Managers, IT senior management, middle management and teammates to ensure corporate, business unit and IT objectives are aligned and being met
•Provides leadership and direction to the IT Business Alignment Team
•Provides oversight of the business unit’s Investment Project Portfolio
•Ensure appropriate communications of new development projects and/or programs to business unit and IT
•Manage and support established governance processes to ensure all demand for IT is recognized, approved and prioritized by business unit
•Other duties as assigned
•Ability to travel as necessary (25-40%)
•BA/BS Degree in the field of business administration, computer science, finance or information systems or related field is required
•8+ years of functional business unit work experience and understanding in the areas of Finance, Accounting, Procurement, Information Technology, Membership Accounting, Medical Management, Claims, etc.
•Excellent understanding of the organization's goals and objectives
•Demonstrated knowledge of the organization's core business processes and operations, along with the strategic use of technology to grow a business
•Primarily focused on the functional business areas that encompasses a Shared Services Organization (HR, AP, AR, IT, Accounting, Finance, Membership Accounting, Medical Management, Customer Services, Health Plans, Claims, etc.)
•Proven experience with business and technical requirements analyses, elicitation, modeling, verification, and methodology development
•5+ years’ experience facilitating development and implementation of business initiatives/projects based on management objectives
•Ability to communicate up and down the management chain, providing the appropriate level of detail and focus on the right information
•Demonstrated project portfolio management skills, including project planning, budgeting, and controlling processes, and valuing IT investments
•Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications such as Microsoft Office software programs
